Field Trips to Atlanta, Georgia
Atlanta - born as a railroad stop in the wilderness and christened by the land surveyor as a place that would never amount to anything. General Sherman didn't agree. He called it the citadel of the South and burned it. Margaret Mitchell didn't agree. She wrote a book about it. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. didn't agree. He called it home. President Jimmy Carter didn't agree. He located his Presidential Library and Center for World Peace here. CNN's Ted Turner didn't agree. He founded his empire here. And then there are those other guys - the Atlanta Braves, the Atlanta Falcons, the Atlanta Hawks and the Atlanta Thrashers.
Welcome to Atlanta and a cultural journey through time as you discover some of the people and the events that have made us the city you see today!

Dinner - Underground Atlanta, area of town where Atlanta literally built the city on top of it in the 1920s.
The Sweet Auburn district is the birthplace of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site includes a visitor center depicting the story of Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement, the restored King Birth Home, Ebenezer Baptist Church where three generations of the King family preached, and the King burial site.
The shoes of Rosa Parks, Thurgood Marshall and Medgar Evers are among a collection of 17 civil rights leaders’ shoes on display at the MLK Historic Site. This tribute to the warriors of justice is a new addition to the site’s poignant exhibitions of this important time. Soon to add Bishop Desmond Tutu.
